Note:
The objective of the proposed project is to establish an Industrial Assessment Center (IAC) at UNT. The center will be located in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, which offers four ABET-accredited B.S. degrees, three M.S. degrees, and a Ph.D. degree including unique programs on energy, construction, and management areas besides mechanical engineering/engineering technology. There is an urgent need for such a center to serve the large number and high concentration of small/medium sized manufacturers and suppliers in North Texas. These companies generally lack in-house professional expertise in a number of areas including: energy, water, and waste management, productivity and competitiveness, smart manufacturing, resiliency planning, decarbonization and electrification, and cyber security. The proposed center will have access to an impressive array of resources for the conduct of this project and dissemination of center information including, existing curricula, laboratories and centers already active in the areas of emphasis of the proposed IAC, a multidisciplinary and diverse student population from across the Colleges of Engineering and Business, excellent supporting facilities within the College of Engineering and UNT, and a very strong track record with industry, in addition to an experienced and committed management team.
