Note:
The Open Access eBook Usage (OAeBU) Data Trust effort will build upon foundational planning and technical development to formalize its community governance and data governance mechanisms and understand true operational costs in order to launch an efficient and sustainable International Data Space (IDS) for OA book usage in 2025. Specifically, this project will develop critical administrative and governance building blocks for the global OAeBU Data Trust. In addition to designing inclusive, representative administrative mechanisms to coordinate global governance, projects, and stakeholder engagement across the book publishing and scholarship communications ecosystems, this project will fund research into the return on investment for data trust participation, optimize onboarding processes to reduce participation burdens for diverse stakeholders, and support community-based development of a scalable budgetary model and a multilateral rulebook for processing and stewarding usage data for the IDS service at the core of the data trust. Successful completion of this project will provide the governance building blocks required for a 2025 public launch of trusted OAeBU data services capable of transparently processing and providing access to aggregated cross-platform usage data and community-defined benchmarks.
