Note:

North Texas region faces major unmet healthcare needs to address gaping health disparities that contribute to poor health and substance use problems, including a need for increased evidence-based OUD/SUD services. The North Texas-20 project will leverage proposed funding to build upon its established work to better redress major unmet needs of our region, promote racial equity and support for undeserved communities, and contribute to diversification of the psychology workforce. The North Texas-20 project will target 20 mental health professional shortage areas and/or medically underserved communities areas across North Texas through partnerships with community-based primary care sites serving those locations. We will provide underrepresented doctoral trainees in clinical psychology working at sites with advanced, interdisciplinary training in integrated behavioral healthcare (including tele-behavioral health). Beyond experiential placements, development of trainees, site supervisors, and faculty will be supported through trainings in prevention, treatment, and recovery from OUD and other SUDs, provision of culturally competent and trauma informed care, assessment of social determinants of health, and provider resiliency. A training-focused emergency preparedness plan, to include distance learning and tele-behavioral health placements, will ensure continuity of both instructional and experiential training activities. These efforts are sustainable and will be closely evaluated with rapid cycle quality improvement processes. The North-Texas-20 team will be committed to transparency about project challenges and progress.
