Note:

This research proposal aims to develop the next generation wound dressing, Microneedle-mediated Adaptive Photobiomodulation (or MAP), which enables simultaneous tissue healing and antimicrobial effects based on a microneedle-mediated, self-diagnosis, in situ localized PBM therapy. Three key components of the MAP comprise: 1) an array of various height and shape microneedles where the various heights enable to diagnose or treat the different layers of the tissue and the various shapes can modulate the light wavelength as a waveguide or a lens, 2) micropatterned chemo-mechanical hydrogel which enables to self-actuate the microneedle by swelling in higher pH and shrinking in lower pH, and 3) an array of pH-sensitive dye where it will be infused to the hydrogel for an adaptive optical filter (i.e., color filter).
