Note:
This is to support GEM Inc in their effort to develop repair technology for naval applications. One of the key goals of this Phase III study is to evaluate the applicability and technology gap of applying AFSD for the repair of forging 7xxx aluminum coupons. UNT shall provide the experimental support, data collection, and AFSD exploration of hole and lug repair using forging coupons and perform NDI and material characterization for selected repaired coupons before and after fatigue tests under R=-1 and R=0.1. To support GEM’s PSPP modeling tool, UNT shall fabricate the hole and lug restoration coupons using GEM’s predicted process conditions. Similar forging materials to 7050-T7451 will be chosen.
