Note:
This research project includes the following task/deliverables: 1. Applying technology on innovative bacteria retting process to obtain hemp bast fiber, and the fiber mat. We will help Z&S Tech to prove the concept for a production of 100% biodegradable prototyped natural fiber – PLA composites. We will conduct the product testing for the physical and mechanical properties in comparison with that of the traditional polymer based composite auto parts. 2. The UNT Bioproducts manufacturing facility, including hot-press, dryer, vacuum assist resin transfer molding (VARTM) equipment, compost test facility, etc. will be used to complete the project. 3. We will conduct Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to analyze bacteria retted hemp bast fiber – PLA composites using the LCA software SimaPro 8.5 according to the ISO 14040 standards of LCA framework (ISO 14044, 2006) and Building for Environmental and Economic Sustainability (BEES). 4. We will develop technical reports.
