Note:

Accurate prediction of the future condition rating of a bridge deck is essential for planning the maintenance, repair, and rehabilitation. The 2022 Summer Research Team Program (SRT) for Minority Serving Institutions (MSI), collaborated by the MSI (UNT) and Center of Excellence (COE) (UIUC), conducted the research project “Development of the Big Bridge Data Across the Conterminous U.S. for Deck Condition Rating Prediction using Machine Learning Algorithms”. A procedure was proposed to develop a Big Bridge Data (BBD) across the Conterminous U.S. by incorporating NBI, traffic, climate, and hazard data. Following the proposed procedure, a BBD of 2020 was developed. Different Machine Learning (ML) models, including random forest, XGBoost, and ANN, were developed using the BBD of 2020 and their performances were evaluated. Based on the SRT project, this follow-on proposal plans to explore a long-term collaboration mechanism on Big Bridge Data & AI-based research and education between the MRI and DHS COE. The detailed objectives include: (1) Explore deeper technical research activities on Big Bridge Data & AI Algorithms, such as 3Vs of BBD and visualizations, (2) Explore broader collaborative research activities between the MSI and DHS COE, and (3) Explore collaborative education activities between
