Exceeds $250,000 (Is it flagged?): No
Start and End Dates: 1/16/23 - 5/31/23
Restricted Research: YES
Academic Discipline: Materials Science & Engineer
Department, Center, School, or Institute: College of Engineering
Title of Contract, Award, or Gift: Co-development of rechargeable Zinc-based batteries
Name of Granting or Contracting Agency/Entity:
Hunt Energy Enterprises, LLC
CFDA:
Program Title: none
Note:
To build on early testing results of Hunt’s Zn-MnO2 batteries and develop a long-term strategy partnership, Hunt will evaluate the UNT Zn anode applicable to Hunt battery cells. UNT will use Dr. Choi’s patent pending technology (US 17/689,974, Choi et. al) and test its reliability in large-scale Zn anodes and work closely with Hunt to improve the performance of Zn-based batteries. The work includes a stage 1 validation of UNT MoS2 coating technology to improve Zn anode performance at 20% utilization at 1C current rate over hundreds of cycles according to Hunt’s cell dimension, testing in Hunt’s battery design/electrolyte using protocols provided by Hunt, as well as optimizing the anode compositions upon validation.
