Note:

The University of North Texas, a Carnegie Tier 1, Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) and Minority Serving Institution (MSI), is pleased to submit this proposal for the Master?s Career Pathways: Exit Survey project, with Dr. Victor Prybutok, Dean of the Toulouse Graduate School as Project Lead. In conjunction with other initiatives, we support the projects initiatives to: (1) adapt master?s programs and curricula to align with core competencies required of the 21st Century workforce; (2) make career outcomes more transparent to prospective masters students; (3) build relationships with employers who hire and employ workers who hold masters degrees; (4) cultivate an increasingly diverse body of master?s degree recipients, especially among women and persons of color in all fields (see Table 1); (5) help institutions understand why individuals decide to pursue master?s degree, how attainment of a master?s degree contributes to career pathway trajectories, and how the upskilling and reskilling effects of master?s degree attainment differs by subfield, sociodemographic, and other attributes; (6) help inform efforts to better align degree programs with labor market needs, and (7) make transparent master?s education critical role in the pathway to the ever-evolving STEM workforce as it is a means to professional advancement (upskilling), a mechanism to signal a new career trajectory (reskilling), or a step en route to a doctorate. Finally, UNT acknowledges this opportunity?s recognition and potential to learn more about the evolving relationship between master?s education and postbaccalaureate certificates.
