Title of Contract, Award, or Gift: Changes to Rio Grande Wild Turkey Habitat and Subsequent Population Demography, Genetic Connectivity, and Disease Prevalence in the Texas Edwards Plateau
Name of Granting or Contracting Agency/Entity:
Texas Tech University
CFDA:
Program Title: none
Note:
Rio Grande wild turkey (RGWT) are native to Texas, but have shown population declines. RGWT are economically important to Texas as a game species. In partnership with TTU and University of Tarleton, TX we will investigate the degree to which human land use practices, climate change, and disease are impacting RGWT population viability. Assist in the collection of genetic material from wild turkeys in the field, and subsequent microsatellite and genetic barcoding of collected genetic material. We will also where house and cryopreserve genetic material utilized int his study for future use requests. This work will provide partial support for one graduate student to complete these tasks as part of their thesis or dissertation.
