Note:
This is the research statement for the CURM minigrant proposal from Dr. Therese Shelton of Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, and Dr. Joseph Iaia from the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas. We propose to each have a small research group of 2 students who will work on current research topics in differential equations. The only prerequisite for the students is a thorough knowledge of one year of calculus. We will each meet with our group of students at least once a week. In addition every other week Drs. Shelton, Iaia, and their students will all meet virtually throughout the academic year. Both groups will plan on attending and presenting the results of their work at the Texas Section Meeting of the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) in the spring of 2023. In the Fall of 2022 we will attend the Texas Undergraduate Mathematics Conference (TUMC). The funds from the grant would pay a stipend for the students, and we expect the students to spend 10 hours per week on this research.
