SAMs 1.1.1--Additional research for fruit fly rearing, methods development and field evaluations for economically important fruit flies continues to be a priority for USDA programs. This Work Plan reflects a cooperative relationship between the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley (Frank Dirrigl, Ph.D., Department of Biology) and Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ) under Notice of Cooperative Agreement Award No. 8130-0042-CA. The cooperative agreements 2019-2020, 2020-2021, and 2021-2022 resulted in significant advancements in understanding and implementing techniques and methods that enhance mass rearing, pest detection, and insect control methodology for the Mexican fruit fly and assisted with control methods for other pestiferous fruit fly species. This Work Plan outlines the mission-related goals, objectives, and anticipated accomplishments, as well as the approach for conducting, and the related roles and responsibilities of the parties as negotiated. The goals, objectives and milestones for each year of work will be revisited on an annual basis and be revised and prioritized according to research funding and progress reports. Even though work is planned to continue over multiple years, continuation of the agreement will not be provided unless funding is appropriated. New objectives, milestones, and budget are described hereafter for 2022-2023.
