Note:

SAMs 1.1.1--Opioid and alcohol misuse and use disorders represent a major national challenge, which is particularly severe for underserved minority populations for whom the consequences of health disparities were pointedly and tragically demonstrated by the recent Covid-19 pandemic. This R13 research application requests support for the UTRGV School of Medicine’s 5th & 6th Annual Research Symposia entitled “International Conference on Health Disparities: Treatment and Recovery from Opioid and Alcohol Use Disorders and Related Comorbidities (ICHD-Recover)” which aims at bringing national leaders, local scientists and community stakholders to address the pressing public health problem of health disparities in opioid and alcohol use disorder among disadvantaged minorities. The ICHD-Recover, the first of its kind in the region, will increase knowledge of US-Mexico border health disparities in opioid and alcohol misuse and use disorders, it will build community capacity for global minority health and health disparities research and will promote research collaboration, implementation of science based, culturally relevenat treatment approaches, and engage trainees from underrepresented population.
