SAMs- 1.1.1 , 1.3.1 Using a population health approach, the PCBH program at UTRGV School of Medicine will develop a curriculum focused on life-skills development for children and adolescents with Type 1 Diabetes, which will be delivered in a group format. Group based interventions capitalize on the shared experience of the group to improve overall motivation and reception to skills reviewed. Curriculum group sessions will be presented as a journey, with multiple destination stops focused on improving psychological flexibility and acceptance-based skills to manage the emotional, psychological, behavioral and body-based experiences of living with Type 1 diabetes. The program will be researched, developed, and piloted over the course of one year (9-1-22 through 8-31-23) by a graduate assistant working under the supervision of Dr. Deepu George. The program will be piloted with children and youth attending the one-week residential summer camp STJDA will operate in the summer of 2023. This statement of work has been created to document the work that includes Dr. Deepu George and the UTRGV SOM PCBHI team will complete for the South Texas Juvenile Diabetes Association. The project period would be September 1, 2022, through August 31, 2023. A total direct cost of $21,500.00 is being requested to hire a Graduate/Research Assistant for the period of 1 year. Under the supervision of Dr. Deepu George and the PCBH Integration team, the graduate assistant will develop a one-week research-based life stills development curriculum for children and teens. This curriculum will be piloted at the STJDA’s 2023 summer camps and will be used at future camps to help children and teens improve psychological flexibility and acceptance-based skills to manage the emotional, psychological, and behavioral experiences of living with diabetes.
