The emphasis includes working to support correctional agencies in developing and transforming jail/prison environments, physical spaces, and staff culture to assist residents in all institutional units with preparing for and successfully navigating reentry and reintegration within communities during post-release. The fellow, Dr. Danielle S. Rudes, will specifically focus on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on correctional agencies, institutions, staff, residents, and communities where individuals return upon custodial release. Dr. Rudes will also provide any/all support to BJA’s corrections and reentry training and technical assistance (TTA) programs. The areas of focus for this BJA fellowship, Enhancing Corrections Spaces and Cultures, include attention to: 1) transforming jail and prison environments, physical spaces, and staff culture to assist reentry preparedness and success; 2) addressing the pandemic’s impact on corrections populations to build on and sustain practices/policies that worked and eliminate those that did not, and 3) supporting BJA’s corrections and reentry training and technical assistance (TTA) efforts.
