Title of Contract, Award, or Gift: JM-Empirical Correlates and Clinical Utility of the MMPI-3 Among Bariatric Surgery Patients
Name of Granting or Contracting Agency/Entity:
University Of Minnesota
Program Title: n/a
Note:
SAMs 1.1.1: Pre-surgical psychological evaluations are routinely conducted with bariatric surgery patients to identify risk factors that may impede surgical outcomes. The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory – 2 – Restructured Form (MMPI-2-RF) scale scores have been predictive of short & long-term outcomes in this population; however, the empirical correlates and comparison group data for the MMPI-3 has yet to be developed. This project aims are: 1.) Establish comparison group data for the MMPI-3 for bariatric surgery patients. 2.) Compute psychometric data, including reliability and convergent/discriminant validity for the MMPI-3 scale scores collected at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center using extra-test data (other self-report measures, collateral chart review data, medical data). 3.) Begin establishing predictive validity coefficients of the MMPI-3 scale scores and various outcomes up to at least 3-years following surgery (e.g., weight loss, readmission, etc.,)Due to the high prevalence of Binge Eating Disorder and other eating pathology (e.g., Loss of control over eating, graze eating, night eating), the MMPI-3 will likely provide incremental benefit to providers. It is hypothesized that the MMPI-3 scale scores will perform as well or better than its counterpart, the MMPI-2-RF.
