Note:
SAMs 1.1.1: Dr. Karan will be working with other team members to determine which rural Alaska community might be the best match and/or most receptive to this project. In consultation with local agencies and researchers in Alaska, the study community will be selected based on its demographics and challenges its residents faced in securing FEW needs before and during the COVID-19. After selecting a study community, Dr. Karan will travel to AK with other team members to convene two workshops and invite a diverse group of local decision makers and community stakeholders, including residents, representatives from academia, students, government, and nonprofit organizations. The goal of this workshop is to understand what community residents experience during a pandemic and what matters to them when they cannot meet their FEW preferences and needs. The first workshop will be a three-day workshop, most likely in Summer 2023. The second workshop will also be a three-day workshop but most likely in summer 2024. Both workshops will be held in Anchorage. Dr. Karan will work with other team members to produce a white paper and a full proposal that follows from the planning grant.
