1.1.1 The project’s focus on increasing the number of highly effective URM secondary mathematics and science teachers aligns with NSF’s focus on broadening participation in STEM by using research and evidence-based strategies to recruit, prepare, and support potential teacher candidates at our institution by collaborating with high need LEAs.The rationale that underlies the proposed project is that providing scholarships to potential teacher candidates through a research- and evidencebased STEM teacher preparation program will increase the number of highly effective URM secondary mathematics and science teachers.
