1.1.1The primary statutory research priority of improving the durability and extending the life of transportation infrastructure. These challenges—durability, construction, and finance—are directly addressed by the research pillars outlined above. Because durability and resilience are closely linked, there are elements consistent with the statutory priority of preserving the existing transportation system as well. The unique strengths of the consortium and its vision for transformative infrastructure programs were key elements in developing NCIT’s three topical research pillars. These pillars provide support and direction for NCIT’s research programs: (1) Infrastructure durability and resilience (2) Technology (3) Policy.
