1.1.1 The overall goal of this seed grant proposal is to provide an immunopotentiator for the mammary glands of commercially important dairy animals. Our central hypothesis is that intramammary infusion with a novel micronized lactoferrin-methyl-sulfonyl-methane complex might help in the elimination and/or prevention of new infection by Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus chromogenes, Streptococcus uberis, and/or Streptococcus dysgalactiae sub-clinical mastitis, thereby resulting in enhanced milk quantity and quality.
