Note:
1.1.1 Cellulose is the most abundant biopolymer on earth and the resourceful utilization of cellulose through depolymerization is a paramount challenge in a sustainable carbon based future [1]. Currently, high pressure-temperature pretreatment followed by enzymatic hydrolysis is the most widely used technique for this challenging process. However deficiencies in current technologies like enzyme costs, inability to recycle the enzyme, and drastic pretreatment requirements have encouraged research into more efficient reusable catalytic methods for harvesting the full potential of cellulose [2]. The long term goal of this project is to develop cellulase enzyme mimicking recyclable chemical catalytic methods for depolymerization of the cellulosic fraction of biomass and further transformations to produce biofuels and chemical feedstocks
