1.3.1 The research will focus on the design of sustainable and environmentally friendly Park & Rides Lots in the Houston Metropolitan area by utilizing sustainable design concepts in the form of but not limited to photovoltaic solar panel carport shading devices with charging stations and sustainable landscape design to the combat the carbon footprint and minimize the heat-island-effect. Based on the information and data from the literature reviews, we will go into the park and ride design phase. Through this research, I will gain information on the barriers as well as ways to counteract those barriers to promote a cleaner environment and reduce heat islands in the urban area of Houston, Texas.
