Note:
1.1.1. This project will perform the following experiments: 1) Survey and sample from mammalian populations in central and southern Texas from a variety of sources and habitats. This will include wild (free-living) animals, wild (captive) animals, domesticated livestock, and companion animals. 2) Purify samples and screen by RT-PCR for the presence or absence of SARS-CoV-2. 3) Positive samples will be sequenced to identify SARS-CoV-2 variant type. 4) A subpopulation of each species will be analyzed for host ACE-2 receptor sequence to better understand the relationship between host susceptibility and infection rates. 5) Infection prevalence, variant typing, ACE-2 receptor data, biometric, and remote sensing data will be analyzed for epidemiologic modeling and predictions.
