Title of Contract, Award, or Gift: Genetic and Physiological Novelties for Salinity Tolerance in Rice Created by Transgressive Segregation
Name of Granting or Contracting Agency/Entity:
USDA-NIFA Cooperative State Research Ed & Extension Service
CFDA: 10.31
Program Title: n/a
Note:
1.1.1: Through a systems-level approach, this project will re-explore a classic phenomenon in plant genetics (transgressive segregation) as holistic strategy to create the morpho-physiological novelties of the next-generation rice ideotypes that maintain productivity under environments affected by salinity and marginalized water resources. This project will elucidate the genetic and physiological underpinnings behind the non-parental super-tolerance or super-sensitivity to salinity across the IR29 (indica) x Pokkali (aus) recombinant inbred population, beyond the effects of the major defense QTL SalTol.
