Note:
1.1.1: The vision of this research project is to combine analytic approaches (nexus theory, conformal mapping, and variational calculus) with detailed simulations of surface physics (DFT, surface electronic wavefunctions for current density) to derive the conditions for the transition of emission mechanisms for arrays of emitters across thermionic, field, and space-charge limited emission. This combination of physics will elucidate the conditions when analytic solutions may provide insight into design and when more detailed simulations will be required.
