Note:
The research outlined in this proposal will determine how circadian clocks control electrical coupling in the photoreceptor network. We will use several new mouse lines to investigate how electrical coupling in the photoreceptor network changes with the time of day and what effect this has on retinal input to the brain. Electrical coupling mediated by Cx36 gap junctions plays a critical role in many brain circuits and functions, thus we anticipate that the ability to control Cx36-mediated coupling may have useful clinical potential.
