Note:
Current limitation in IBD Diagnostics: The current approach to monitor disease in IBD, fecal calprotectin, is unreliable and is sub-optimal in accuracy. Although endoscopy and biopsy of intestinal tissue offer reliable diagnostic information, they cannot be serially repeated at each hospital visit. Furthermore, they are expensive and time-consuming. Given these limitations, we need better disease "biomarkers" that are easy to perform repeatedly, relatively inexpensive, and yet offer reliable information. Our innovative proposal: Specifically, we propose to assay the levels of 7000 proteins in the stool of CD patients. Such a large number of stool proteins have never before been interrogated in IBD patients. SAMs 1.1.1
