Note:
This project bridges engineering and the humanities to apply contextual approaches of the history of technology to a study of the development of power systems algorithms, clarifying how invisible technologies become established in large and complex power systems. This qualitative historical research will expand our knowledge of the creation of current electric power systems, illuminate the past non-technical trends that framed the development of the key optimization and control algorithms in use on the grid today, and offer insight to imagine new approaches for the future.
