My scientic work studies hyperbolic dynamical systems. Such systems evolve in time according to a deterministic rule but appear stochastic over long time scales due to exponentially fast separation of nearby trajectories, which quickly amplies initial measurement errors. The stochastic behavior is best studied by treating a time series of measurements as a sequence of random variables { a stochastic process { with respect to some invariant probability measure on the phase space X.
