Note:
We propose to (1) Interrogate existing noble gas samples from 2000 and 2007, collected in the vicinity of Dotson and Getz ice shelf for evidence of hydrothermal signatures, (2) evaluate whether mantle material is presently emanating from the vent system, (3) explore the potential spread of hydrothermal trace elements into the water column via e.g. the GIS meltwater pump, (4) evaluate whether seawater or subglacial freshwater may feed the vent system, (5) Use GIS noble gas samples together with samples collected further east to determine how meltwater inputs to the Antarctic Coastal Current evolve along major Amundsen ice shelves.
