Title of Contract, Award, or Gift: A PILOT RANDOMIZED TRIAL EVALUATING SHORT-TERM EFFECTIVENESS OF VISION THERAPY IN CHILDREN WITH INTERMITTENT EXOTROPIA (VT-IXT STUDY)
Name of Granting or Contracting Agency/Entity:
Marshall B Ketchum University
CFDA: 00.000
Program Title: n/a
Note:
The main objectives of this pilot randomized clinical trial (RCT) comparing vision therapy (VT) to observation for children with intermittent exotropia (IXT) are the following: 1. Determine the feasibility of recruitment and retention of children aged 8 to 16 years with IXT to participate in an RCT of 20 weeks of in-office VT. 2. Determine the treatment effect size for the IXT distance control score after 20 weeks for subjects randomized to the VT group and for the subjects randomized to the observation group. 3. Optimize our VT treatment protocol and develop a comprehensive manual of procedures for the subsequent full-scale RCT. 4. Assess the feasibility of using objective eye movement recordings to assess the frequency of the IXT and changes in control with treatment. SAMs 1.1.1
