Title of Contract, Award, or Gift: MAPPING STRATEGIC MINERALS IN NEW MEXICO BY HYPERSPECTRAL IMAGING
Name of Granting or Contracting Agency/Entity:
Midwestern State University
CFDA: 00.000
Program Title: n/a
Note:
The goal of this research is to map mineralogy at high spatial and spectral resolution using Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) -based hyperspectral cameras in the visible near-infrared (VNIR) wavelengths at outcrop scale, and to integrate these results with AVIRIS data. The advantage of UAV-based imaging will be improved detection, geologic/petrological modelling, diagenetic alteration, and deformation at the outcrop scale. Economic materials such as REEs are typically found in low concentrations and would not likely exhibit their diagnostic features at meter-scale spatial resolution, which is common with airborne and satellite-based platforms. Average spectra measured on the ground, from close-range imaging will be used as endmembers for classification of AVIRIS dataset. SAMs 1.1.1
