Note:
The project aims to develop advanced thermal management schemes for hypersonic sharp leading edge capable of operating at more than 1500 W/cm2 stagnation heat flux and more than 2200 K surface temperature using electron transpiration cooling, supplemented by a semi-passive engineered heat pipe with augmented wettability using nanostructures and active regenerating cooling for scramjet engines. The objectives of this project are realized based on the DARPA Materials Architectures and Characterization for Hypersonics (MACH) program[1] focused on “developing a new class of thermally-managed, shape-stable, sharp leading edge solutions for high lift-to-drag ratio hypersonic air vehicles that are capable of operating at high heat fluxes.”
