Program Title: Agriculture and Food Research Initiative (AFRI)

Note:

We will use previously reported methods for simulated seawater, mineral salts, and trace elements, {Soldatova, 2019 #3393} REF supplemented with MnCl2 and mineral salts16, 39-41. The concentration of macronutrients will be determined based on the elemental balance to produce dry biomass of P. putida GB-1 (marine isolate bacteria) using a previously reported procedure 38 {Wanner, 1990 #3535} . Previous batch studies have obtained BioMnOx of ~40 mg/L at the end of experiments, therefore, we estimate that resultant mass of 16 mg per batch test. This amount will allow us to generate 10 mL stock solutions of 1.6 g/L that will be used for the characterization of the BioMnOx and oxidation potential. The nanoparticle extraction protocol will be adapted from published protocols used for the extraction of FeOx magnetosomes from microbial cultures that have been shown to preserve natural biocoating{Villalobos, 2006 #3503;Villalobos, 2003 #3504}
