Note:

The goal for FY 2022-2023 is to continue the partnership between UTEP SW and Region 10 hoping to explore to other divisions based on the successes in permanency. In the meantime, UTEP SW continues to graduate both BSW and MSW students with knowledge, values, and skills to enter the public child welfare field, many of the unfunded graduated obtaining positions with contract agencies in the areas of foster care and adoption services. While Title IV-E primarily provide stipends for five UTEP MSW students, the collaboration also designs and develops training programs that enhance the preparedness of Child Protective Service (CPS) workers for advanced child welfare practice and leadership. For example, an inundation of foster youth with no placements led to temporary placement within the CPS office. This created stress and a need for workers to learn how to de-escalate situation. UTEP SW identified that need and provided the training to support the Region 10 staff from a social work strengths perspective using ecological systems framework to address the need. The ability to immediately assess a need and create a valuable intervention that provided skills for the Region 10 workers demonstrates the strength of the partnership and a possible rationale for high worker retention rates. This program contract incorporates curriculum into the MSW program that directly addresses issues related to enhancing casework skills necessary for administering the foster care program. The main outcome of this partnership is to increase the competencies and qualifications of CPS caseworkers, investigators and other employees and to further prepare and retain the child welfare workforce
