Note:
Provide a summary of the solution you are proposing to demonstrate that reduces the volumeof concentrate and better manages the residuals from inland desalination plants. YourTechnical Abstract should be a stand- alone statement of how your solution addresses theproblem. It should not require any other context to clearly explain what you propose toaccomplish. Focus on delivering a compelling overview so that the Evaluation Panel membersassigned to score your submission will want to read more. Our goal is to use Fujifilm's salt-free electrodialysis metathesis (EDM) process to recover 90%of Yuma MODE RO concentrate as EDM product (<1000 mg/L TDS) to blend with MODE ROpermeate for a total system recovery >98%. By clever process configuration, salt-free EDM isa double-bonus cost-saving technology: first, it enables very high recovery with twoconcentrate streams, minimizing concentrate disposal costs, and second, it uses only half theenergy of conventional EDM. (See Visual Representation.) Pilot testing on real brackish waterat Reclamation's BGNDRF in Alamogordo, NM revealed that very high recovery can beachieved with salt-free EDM.
