Note:
This is part of a proposal for an NSF AI Institute, lead by SUNY Buffalo, under the overall topic of "ALTStrong: Advancing AI Learning Technologies for Scalable Early Screening & Ability-based Intervention for Children with Speech and Language Related Disorders" (working title). In support of this proposal the University of Texas at El Paso will perform basic and applied research in support of development of the AIScreener, in particular, the ability to flag "critical interaction data snippets", that is, short samples of interaction that are likely to be informative for teachers, parents or clinicians. We will use machine learning approaches, plus some small amount of human-subjects experimentation to explore how such snippets are perceived.
