Note:

THECB is seeking to bolster strategic outreach and increase direct-to-college enrollment by expanding the Advise TX College Advising Corps (CAC) and Virtual Advising Project in partnership with participating Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Hispanic Serving Institutions, and colleges and universities with majority low-income student populations. Advise TX CAC is a partner program of the National College Advising Corps and a THECB priority program. Advise TX CAC places recent college graduates on high school campuses as near-peer college advisers to lead low-income and first-generation students to postsecondary education. The Virtual Advising project pairs artificial intelligence (AI)-a chatbot, “ADVi”-with knowledgeable near-peer advisers to help Texans get answers to questions, including but not limited to questions about attending college, returning to college, and financial aid. This Contract will provide funding to leverage the Advise TX CAC program and ADVi by developing a new Advise TX CAC hybrid advising program to include both in-person and virtual advising support to minority-serving institutions across the state. Recent college graduates from Performing Agency will serve as full-time, near-peer hybrid advisers at participating high schools. These Advise TX CAC hybrid advisers will provide in-person and virtual advising to an expanded cohort of 12th grade students in their preparation for and transition to college. ADVi, THECB's virtual chatbot, will support participating high school campuses, providing students an opportunity to connect with their assigned Advise TX hybrid adviser for timely college and career guidance. This Contract is funded by the Governors Emergency Education Relief (GEER II) Fund II allocated to Receiving Agency. This Contract provides for expansion of Advise TX to better assist students to enroll in and complete higher education certifications and/or degrees. This work is a necessary component of the pandemic recovery for students, institutions of higher education, and the state workforce.
