Note:
My goal is to become a tenure track principal investigator within the field of neural development. My laboratory will focus on combining cellular and molecular assays with behavioral assays to determine the functional significance of human disease variants. Technical research and career development milestones I hope to reach in the K-phase include: advanced imaging capabilities (i.e., live imaging), adaptations/protocols for adult and larval behavioral assays, bioinformatics analysis of genomic data, single cell sequencing, and chromatin immunoprecipitation with sequencing. In my training plan, my mentor and I have identified potential post-doctoral mentors whose research fits my goals. I have also submitted my application to the 2022 St. Jude Children's Research Hospital National Graduate Student Symposium (NGSS) for a future post-doctoral fellowship with possible mentors that include Dr. Michael Dyer. We have also identified available T32 training programs (i.e., Univ. of Colorado) as well as future mentors in our regular one on one training sessions. In addition, I will participate in the available interdisciplinary collaborations to increase my scientific network and aid in my transition to a post-doctoral position. I have recruited a co-sponsor, Dr. Bruce Appel, who will aid in my post-doctoral transition via one-on-one monthly zoom meetings and a short summer training in his laboratory. Such interactions will be essential to securing a future position.
