Note:

The CANDID program is a traineeship program targeted at URM students enrolled at MSIs toperform high-energy physics research at ORNL. The ORNL mentors and MSI faculty stronglybelieve that a research experience alone is not enough to guarantee the development of a physicsresearch identity and enable students to succeed in graduate degrees in physics. Therefore, wehave designed a holistic program that features regular career development, technical skills, andprofessional development workshops, emphasizing adequate mentoring support. CANDID fellowswill work in smaller cohorts according to the research team’s specific skills and science driver, allowing them to work together in an inclusive and enabling environment. The overarching goal of this program is to increase the likelihood of the cohort obtaining a graduate degree in STEM andincrease the retention of URM students in STEM fields, especially in HEP.
