Note:
SNL has developed a new materials synthesis technology for fabrication of microstructural clones consisting of columnar metallic microstructures. There is a critical need to validate digital clones of these microstructures at multiple length scales, applied strain rates and stress states. Previous work in the literature in their area has focused on finite size scale effects in materials at the micrometer to sub-micrometer scale or at a disparate bulk length scale. Here, we will employ advanced ultra short pulse laser micromachining for batch fabrication of mesoscale mechanical testing specimens and perform in-situ investigations of the yield and mechanical response of these microstructural clones in specimens with characteristic minimum dimensions ranging from 25 to 500 micrometers.
