Note:
This 4-year proposal to the Racial Equity in STEM Education program is a collaboration between social scientists at the University of Wisconsin–Madison and scientists and leaders with the University of TexasSystem Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP). We propose a longitudinal studyinvestigating links among social networks, community cultural wealth (CCW), undergraduate researchexperiences (UREs), and STEM outcomes for Latina/o STEM students attending eight 4-year UT System LSAMP campuses, all of which are Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs) or emerging HSIs. Although Latina/o undergraduates plan to enter STEM at rates equivalent to or exceeding those of their peers from other racial/ethnic groups, they are underrepresented in the STEM workforce and among bachelor’s,master’s, and doctoral recipients in STEM.
