Note:

DRIVE AM trains active duty, transitioning soldiers, and DoD personnel to: 1) best utilize additive manufacturing to support maintenance and sustainment activities, and 2) leverage additive manufacturing to maintain superiority within DoD operations and technologies and the defense industry supply chain. In addition, DRIVE AM includes a STEM K-PhD pipeline program to sustain workforce needs as well as an additive manufacturing business creation ecosystem to support the defense supply chain. The STEM pipeline and business creation ecosystem programs are branded as the DRIVE 3D program within the overall DRIVE AM umbrella. The DRIVE AM team is also working with existing additive manufacturing companies and the defense supply chain to help keep up with emerging technology, maintain economic competitiveness, and expand the technical workforce. DRIVE AM trains at three levels of proficiency, each targeting soldiers, technicians, operators, engineers, DoD support personnel, personnel transitioning from the military, or veterans that are (1) in active roles in the military or DoD, or (2) in support of DoD through the defense manufacturing supply chain (including new AM-focused businesses created through this program). The DRIVE AM Foundation program consists of six foundational, 3-day trainings that provide introductory education in AM process categories, design and CAD, reverse engineering, intended build interruptions, and other introductory areas focused on AM process workflows. One approach that will be explored during the current effort, known as Advancing DRIVE AM, is the development of hybrid courses with two days of virtual instruction and one day of in-person instruction, or vice versa. The virtual instruction, specifically, will be synchronous at first but asynchronous delivery is the target for the later stages of the project. The methods developed for virtual training during this COVID disruption will be applied throughout the program to expand reach and availability during active military deployment.
