Program Title:
Basic Scientific Research
CFDA Linked: Basic Scientific Research
Note:
The EM Lab at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) will use hybrid additive manufacturing in an nScrypt hybrid 3D printer to build electrical circuits for applications in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The circuits may contain active elements, passive elements, and sensors for measuring parameters such as pressure, strain, and temperature as well as debris monitoring in oil. Dielectrics will be dispensed using fused filament fabrication (FFF) where the filaments will be supplied by Eaton Research Labs. The conductive traces will be dispensed using micro-dispensing. Figure 1 shows an illustration of one concept for the proposed research. The circuit transduces a signal from a debris sensor, amplifies the signal, and transmits the signal via a radio frequency signal.
