Note:

The Paso del Norte region is a majority-minority region with one of the largest Hispanic-serving universities in the United States. The University of Texas at El Paso’s (UTEP) influence extends beyond the border region. UTEP serves as a bastion of academic xcellence and support for the communities it has seen thrive. The UTEP campus-based advocacy victim assistance program will continue its commitment to enhancing direct victim services, education, intervention programs, and streamlining the referral process to ensure students who have been victims of crime receive the information, case management, services, and support needed to assist with their recovery, empower them to succeed in their academic goals and graduate. Advocacy interactions seek to build and rebuild institutional trust by offering support, safe spaces to seek information and connections to other entities across the university and community. The institutional program recognizes that the services provided for each victim must be flexible and adaptable for every situation. Services offered will address victims’ needs in a holistic manner by professional staff members who are well versed in the cultural norms, trauma, and sensitivity requirements of our campus community. The framework for the campus-based advocacy program includes: 1) increase knowledge of campus-based, confidential services available to victims of crime; 2) enhance the quality and cultural relevance of victim services 3) increase communication within the campus to reduce barriers for survivors seeking assistance and increase the use of services offered through the program.
