Note:
The border community has received considerable socio-political attention over the last few years, but much of the national conversation about the area obscures the personal stories from the people of this region. Through the lens of letters, postcards, murals, and other personal stories, we will launch part investigative theatre, part community engagement project that will culminate in a production to weave together, and shine a light on the human experience-the past, the mystery, and the hopes of the people who comprise our vibrant community. Our project will create an original piece of live theatre based on landscape narratives: those that intersect history, place, person, and story. Our goal for this project is to offer a kaleidoscopic lens into the communities' view of their city. Our task will be to find the connective tissue between the submitted stories and a fictional narrative in order to sustain the 'feeling' of place through our interpretative creation. Part theatrical play, part immersive experience, our project will culminate in a new work about place and displacement, about things said and things left unsaid, about the beautiful complexity of life on the frontera. The goal is to impact the national and global stages understanding of the inhabitants of the frontera community as well, and to deepen the effect and the power of stories told by people.
