Title of Contract, Award, or Gift: Early detection and genetic evaluation of Hispanic ovarian cancer patients
Name of Granting or Contracting Agency/Entity:
LIZANELL AND COLBERT COLDWELL FOUNDATION
Program Title: #N/A
Note:
Hispanic women represent <5% of participants in OC clinical trials even though the prevalence of OC among Hispanic and non-Hispanic Whites is very similar (12.0 vs 10.3 per 100,000 women), thus missing an opportunity to study the genomic differences and treatment responses between racial/ethnic groups. This project targets to establish Doppel as a biomarker for ovarian cancer patients and an organoid model specific to Hispanic OC patients. Identifying targetable mechanisms may provide opportunities to enhance the success of ovarian cancer therapy in the future. Our efforts to make Hispanic-centered organoid biobank can be subjected to real-time drug screening against chemoresistant tumors, genetic manipulations and cancer disparity research by comparing the organoids of non-Hispanic Whites
