Note:
Through this planning grant, we will examine the root causes of poverty in El Paso, Texas, and then we will design programs to address those root causes of poverty. Many community members will participate in the planning sessions, including leaders of local community organizations and community members with lived experience on poverty and food insecurity. To measure community needs and help identify root causes of poverty, we will utilize a representative survey of El Paso, interviews/focus groups with low-income community members, and an extensive literature review. Efforts will contribute to UTEP serving as a site for expansion to help address poverty and food insecurity among UTEP students.
