Note:
The vision of the NSF INCLUDES program is to catalyze the STEM enterprise to work collaboratively for inclusive change, resulting in a STEM workforce that reflects the population of the Nation. While present INCLUDES alliances each have made progress and can emonstrate impact of their individual goals, we believe that continuing to work independently will fall significantly short of our combined potential. We posit the alliances can come significantly closer to reaching overall INCLUDES program goals by building synergy and collaboration of activities across the alliances. Numerous interactions among Cohorts 1 and 2 leaders has led to the formation of the INCLUDES Community Alliance that proposes a 2-day virtual conference to bring together and engage all three INCLUDES Alliance cohorts to leverage the collective knowledge, lessons learned, and specific activities to accelerate change in broadening STEM participation (BP) in realizing NSF’s bold vision. The proposed virtual two-day conference includes members of the CAHSI INCLUDES’ backbone team who have the experience and knowledge to lead a national virtual conference, as the NSF-funded conference they led in 2019 resulted in a new NSF solicitation specifically for capacity building of Hispanic-Serving Institutions. Other INCLUDES Alliance leaders are co-authors of the proposed conference and have the breadth and depth of experience and knowledge of working with complex systems to achieve bold goals and objectives. The conference will capitalize on the synergy generated at the 2021 convening of the INCLUDES Alliance collective to accomplish the conference goal of bolstering collective action across the INCLUDES alliance cohorts.
