Polar Programs
CFDA Linked: Polar Programs
Note:
This proposed GEO-VETS Supplement to “NSF-NERC: Thwaites Interdisciplinary Margin Evolution (TIME): The Role of Shear Margin Dynamics in the Future Evolution of the Thwaites Drainage Basin” will fund the participation of an Air Force veteran and University of Texas at El Paso Ph.D. student, Tara Sweeney, in research and Antarctic fieldwork for one year. Ms. Sweeney will participate in the 2022-23 Antarctic field season for almost 4 months, collecting seismic and radar data across the eastern shear margin of Thwaites Glacier in West Antarctica. She has myriad skills that will be beneficial to the project, and she will also receive training in Antarctic field safety, glacier travel, and glacial geophysical data acquisition. She will process new seismic data following the field season to contribute to our study of the Thwaites shear margin.
